Ok. I've had a chance to lighten up a little. Pretty fired up last night at the CBS presentation. The Braves played the Mets after 9-11. The Falcons played the Saints after Katrina and the Dogs what? Oh...they played Cam Newton after a week of being accused of doing bad things...who was then treated like a messiah.
Again...I hope he's not guilty. I hate the idea that his reputation is tarnished. However, I think we have seen a gross pendulum swing the other way. Now what we seem to be hearing is..."See, he's a great football player. He can't possibly be guilty of anything. Look at him go!!"
As for the game, we put up 31 points on the #2 team in the nation. Our offense represented themselves well. Murray is going to be really fun to watch for a few years. Our defense needs some tweaking and we need to recruit guys that can excel under this system. I think what we have now is good players trying to figure it out for the first time. Anyhow...I'm not worried about it. We've done some really good things this year and I'm hopeful for our immediate future.
We have put ourselves in a position to win each and every game until at least the mid fourth quarter. I think the Dogs can hold their heads high.
One more against the Jackets and done. I think the program should turn down a bowl bid but that's just me. I'm not a senior on the team so it's easy for me to be cavalier about such things.
Ah, the (sure as all hell better be one) bowl bid - what to do?
ReplyDeleteBehind door #1 we have the HsDnDPiR2-P90x Bowl. Played on Dec 2nd vs the loser of the Div. IIV game between Southern Taint Tech, & Alan's College of Cosmetology.
Location: approx 37 miles south/southeast of Hammond, IN behind the abandoned Service Merchandise regional shipping center. There's a nice field there, which the Hammond Horsecocks (the AA team for the AAA affiliate of the Montreal Expos) use for training in the Spring, before the women's auxillary club gets full use for their annual talent show for epileptic clowns.
Pay-out is $2,739, which is pooled between the 12 SEC schools.
Door #2, you ask?
Athens, GA.
Weight room.
Running in the pool.
Cardio training.
Watching film.
Team building events.
Weight room.
Wind sprints.
more wind sprints.
That deal where you run through the tires at shoulder level.
That other deal with the tires, where you alternate steps (quickly), & try not to break an ankle.
Watching "Scarface".
10 mile "Curahee" runs (see: Brothers, Band of)
Weight room.
Sense a theme here?
These Dogs should finish the 2010 season around 11PM EST on Nov.27th - regardless of the outcome.
Said it before, say it every yr, will say it now & will continue to say it until I feel tired of saying it: 6-6 teams do not belong in bowls.
Period.
It does not matter how storied your program is.
Doesn't matter if you started 0-6 and then finished 6-0 (should have had your shit together in week 2, or 3, or 4, etc)
Doesn't matter if your Seniors "earned it"...if 6-6 is they best they can do, they've earned the right only to stop playing.
It's a joke.
Yes I get the arguments, one of which I just alluded to above, another being money, & a 3rd being exposure.
This ain't Hollywood - it's the SEC. The "bad press is better than no press at all" doesn't fly.
Playing in the Chapped Ass bowl at 8AM on a Sunday on Telemundo does not impress any potential recruits.
Rather, it makes all 6 of them watching think..."WTF am I doing watching this?"
Or, "...why in Sam Hell is UGA on TV - I thought they went 6-6 this yr?"
Or worse yet - "....hey Mom/Dad - come here. Look it's UGA vs Wyoming Dental in a bowl game. Goddamm it looks cold there. I wonder why they didn't bother clearing the snow from the sidelines so the fans - oh wait, nevermind. Who is that gap-toothed chic with the Molly Hatchet shirt passig out Gatorade? Hey Dad? Is that letter from coach (insert any name you choose here) still on the table?"
There is plenty of bad press.
Don't do it guys - it's not worth it on so many levels.
We've already embarrassed the tits off a cow this yr, w/the red panties debacle, the arrest records that make kids in Compton go "damn - those guys are for real", the "oh - I didn't know I couldn't sell you my jersey & keep the $1000", to the Colorado game.
Just pack up the trucks & roll out of town like the 84 Colts.
No need for an explanation - we get it. Enough is enough already.
Another game is just pulling off the Band-Aid -reeeaaaalllyyy slowly.
We don't want a 6-7 season on the books.
