Auburn Recap

Wow. Look what happens when you run the ball effectively, don't turn the ball over, and only have 4 penalties for 29 yards. You stay in the game. You grind it out. You win.

Ealey had 18 carries for 98 yards. Sounds like a Georgia running back to me. We tested them up the middle. Both of Caleb King's TDs were right up the gut. Last night was probably one of my top 5 fun games in Athens. The weather was perfect. The expectation level on both sides was realistic. I had tickets on the 50 about 20 rows up. We played a good game. We won. The Auburn fans (around me at least) were as humbled by this year as we are...therefore they were actually kinda fun to goof with. Adding to the enjoyment of the day was our decision to ride on a charter bus out of Buckhead that dropped off right at our tailgate at the arches. The bus then left at 11:30 back to Atlanta. It totally removed the annoying logistics involved with a Saturday in Athens...especially a night game. They are tough to pull off from Atlanta.

Anyhow, I'm writing at the level of a dull 4th grader at the moment and I'm not feeling that this will improve anytime today...maybe so...but I've got a Falcons game to watch.

...not much of an "Auburn recap"...but what the hell..

Go DOGS!!!

  1. spot on, Mr. Emerson - spot on.

So let's think about this for a moment...

    * Dogs have 0 turnovers (read: Cox doesn't throw any picks)
    * Dogs create 2 turnovers (could've had 3 or 4 if our DB's could catch)
    * After they realized the game had actually started, the D played quite well. Consistent pressure on Todd, good containment on Tate - probably the best defensive game all yr.
    * King, Troupe & Charles filled the void very well after Green was injured.
    * And...last but most definitely not least - a steady dose of Ealey & King. Samuel had 0 carries, & I think that should continue. Prediction: Samuel will convert to LB next yr. Don't need him in the backfield with Ealey, King, & Carlton Thomas.

All of this adds up to a victory.
Not exactly a mind-boggling formula for success.

Now the tough question - which injury hurts the team more...Green or Rambo?
Certainly the kneejerk answer is Green - the best WR in the country.
However, looking at this game, the absence of Rambo could be worse (note - at this time, the latest is a concussion for Rambo & a bad shoulder strain, a la Sam Bradford, for Green. Odds are that Green will be out longer than Rambo).
With AJ on the sidelines, UGA has no choice but to run, run & run some more. Defenses will likely switch their schemes to contain the ground game, & this should lead to single coverage for Troupe, King, Wooten, & maybe even Marlon Brown. This is a good thing - those guys are all talented, & can make the plays. If not, then Washaun & Caleb will do their thing.

On the other hand, we need Rambo desperately in the secondary. Bryan Evans could screw up a 2-car parade, & gets burned 2-3x per game.

To win out, we'll need both of them, but at least against KY, it may well be Rambo that is the larger loss.
